Description
Founded in 1914, Progressive Building Society is Northern Ireland’s only local building society. It serves more than 90,000 members through 11 branches, and as a mutual it reinvests its profits for the benefit of its members and the wider community. With assets of £2.28bn and continued growth, the Society is now investing for the future in digital services, branch modernisation and new markets.
The Society has a strong and stable board of six non-executive directors and three executive directors providing independent judgement and constructive challenge, helping shape long-term strategy and make sure the Society’s governance, risk management and controls stay robust as it grows responsibly through a period of change. Ahead of planned board rotation, Progressive is now seeking to appoint a highly credible, forward-thinking Non-Executive Director to join the board for an initial term of three years.
To complement the existing skills on the board, the Society is ideally seeking an individual with significant, recent senior-level expertise in one of the following areas:
- mortgage brokerage or independent financial advice
- property
- public affairs and stakeholder communication.
Candidates will also have significant board or C-suite experience within a robust corporate governance framework, sound business acumen and a lateral, forward-looking perspective, with the ability to shape strategic direction. Additionally the NED will have an in-depth knowledge of the social, economic and political landscape across NI and GB and a commitment to the mutual ethos and the Society’s values of trust, fairness, integrity and community.
